The United Nations (publishing its latest figures on HIV-AIDS) says Asia is one of three regions where the spread of the epidemic is most noticeable. The UN said high-risk behaviour -- including injecting drug use, unprotected paid sex, and unsafe sex between men -- was to blame.
It said there was increasing evidence of outbreaks among men who have sex with men in Cambodia, China, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand and Vietnam. But the UN said most national AIDS programmes in the region were failing to address the specific needs of this group, or of the link between injecting drug use and sex work. In China, there was further evidence of the virus spreading from high-risk groups into the general population.(www.bbc.com)
